A:

ConnectLA is an interactive website of video, audio and text information (se habla espanol), which provides residents of low-income communities with a comprehensive, centralized database of links to local employers, health & community-based organizations/agencies, local government and social services. ConnectLA works in partnership with community technology centers to feature the website and to get feedback from community residents in an effort to develop a website that is user-friendly and meets community needs.

What will I find on ConnectLA?

A:

ConnectLA currently has:

  • A database of more than 500 local jobs (Information available in English and Spanish) searchable by Employer, Location or Job Type. Jobs include information about the company, full job descriptions, benefits and instructions for applying.
  • Access for local employers and community agencies to ConnectLA's remote updating system (RUS) where they are able to post information directly to the database and events on the community calendar.
  • Assistance in overcoming the stumbling blocks to getting a job (job training, resume writing & interview tips, child care information, transportation links and a database of community service organizations).
  • Detailed information on the specific health conditions that impact the wellness of underserved communities and links to local resources.
  • A database of health providers and agencies searchable by zip code, specialty/ service type, and physician or agency name.

Is there a cost to participate in ConnectLA?

A:

ConnectLA is totally free of charge! Jobseekers can search our database of jobs and community services free of charge! Employers can post their jobs free of charge! Community and health agencies can advertise their services free of charge! You can't beat the price!

Q:

I just want to view the ConnectLA website, do I have to become a registered user?

A:

You no longer have to become a registered user to view the ConnectLA website, however if you sign up with ConnectLA you can get:

  • FREE Monthly e-newsletter.
  • FREE Updates on What's New at ConnectLA.
  • FREE Job Matching Service (coming soon!).

Q:

Our organization currently has a website, why would we want to participate in ConnectLA?

A:

The ConnectLA website is a unique multimedia bilingual website and has been customized to meet the needs of the greater Los Angeles community. By participating in ConnectLA you will be able to increase your exposure and potentially reach additional constituents, at no cost to you.

Q:

Should we present this partnership to our Webmaster or IT person before moving forward with ConnectLA?

A:

ConnectLA is a nonprofit, non-commercial website designed to meet the needs of underserved community residents, we are not a substitute for your organization's website nor are we looking to merge with your existing website, ConnectLA is simply an additional Internet marketing tool that will hopefully enhance your outreach efforts as well as refer more individuals to seek out your services and/or jobs. However, we are very open to providing answers to any questions that your technical staff may have.

Q:

If we post our jobs/services on ConnectLA website, how will they get updated?

A:

There are three simple ways to update your jobs on the ConnectLA website: We will provide you with a unique username and password, you can post the information directly to the website from your computer using the Remote Updating System. Secondly, agency information and job listings can by forwarded to ConnectLA staff (in a word document) via e-mail, fax or US. Mail for posting. Finally, if a website is available, we can extract the information directly from your website, as well as provide a link to your website with the hope of increasing traffic. It's that simple.

Q:

How is ConnectLA different from other employment websites?

A:

Unlike most commercial employment websites that are national in scope and primarily feature jobs that require a college degree, ConnectLA only features local employment opportunities (Los Angeles County) and actively seeks employers that offer entry-level and semi-skilled positions. So, a ConnectLA user will not get excited about a job, only to find that it is located in Nebraska!

Q:

What do I need to do to get my organization's jobs and/or services on your website?

A:

If you are a local employer or a community agency and would like to feature your jobs and/or services on www.connectla.org free of charge, contact us via email at connectla@cgs.org or call Miesha Watson-Council at (310) 470-6590 x109. We will provide you with instructions based upon your organization's specific needs. We usually can have your information posted within 48-hours of receiving your preliminary information. The process is as easy as 1-2-3!
